Edoardo Tortarolo is Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Eastern Piedmont. 2021, he was Fellow at the Accademia Europaea, London. His publications include: Uscire dall’isolamento. La storiografia italiana e la ripresa dei rapporti internazionali nel secondo dopoguerra (with Roberto Pertici, Viella, Roma 2023), Giuseppe Galasso (Viella, Roma 2022), Secolarizzazione e modernità. Un quadro storico (with Irene Gaddo, Carocci, Roma 2017).

He is a Visiting Fellow at CAS LMU in May and June 2025 and works together with Prof. Dr. Arndt Brendecke (LMU). At CAS Edoardo Tortarolo is writing a monograph on the past and future of the ‘history of mankind’ as an epistemic mode of understanding our place in time and space. The overall aim is to produce a monograph that examines the widest possible range of historiographical texts that have addressed the globality of human history and have sought to develop the analytical and narrative methods to tell a story of wide geographical and chronological scope.
